Transition Year Programme

Transition Year Portfolio of Achievements Ceremony 2016

  Gaisce Bronze Awards 2016

Transition Year has been offered in Castleblayney College since 1986. This is an optional course, but is taken by most students. We believe that ours is an excellent Transition Year Programme in quality, content and variety.

We are committed to offering a programme as recommended by the Department of Education and Science. Our Transition year Programme:

1. Promotes academic, technical and general skills.
2. Educates for maturity with the emphasis on social awareness and social competence.
3. Provides experience of adult and working life.

The emphasis throughout the whole of Transition Year is on taking responsibility, where students are enabled to become more mature, confident and independent, ready to take on the challenge of the Leaving Certificate cycle. Our students learn transferable skills and qualities, which are so necessary in today’s fast changing world and which will help them in their preparation for their future careers.

Our course is divided approximately into 60% core subjects and 40% modular subjects. Students also get involved in Creating a Mini-company and have two separate weeks of Work Experience as recommended by the Department. Modular subjects give variety to the programme and give the students an opportunity to acquire new skills in a variety of subject areas which they might consider for Leaving Certificate.
