Guest Speakers

As part of our policy of forging links with  the wider community, guest speakers are invited to the school to make presentations on a wide variety of subjects. The most recent guest was Minister Heather Humphreys who officially opened our new extension in September.  We also had MEP Marian Harkin with us on the day.  This followed the recent visit of our Student Council to the European Parliament in Brussels in Spring 2016.

Other regular guest speakers present workshops on a range of Wellbeing topics.  These topics and organisations include Alcohol and Drugs Awareness, Film Workshop, Road Safety Authority, Study Skills, Careers, AWARE, Civil Defence and Yoga to name a few . The school organizes an annual Interview Skills Day for Leaving Certicate students. To compliment the guest speakers the Careers Department organizes visits to the Higher Options Day in Dublin at which many 3rd level colleges and universities provide information on the various courses on offer for the next college year.

The DKIT (Dundalk Institute of Technology) regularly obliges with an Open Day and also visits the Leaving Cert students in the college. A driving instructor and a member of Garda an Siochana give presentations to students of the Driver Theory class.

Youthwork Ireland also give regular talks to students on a range of youth related topics including the Drinks Awareness programme. Our students have also been involved in a number of Peace III Projects promoting cultural integration in the community which is sponsored by Castleblayney Enterprise Centre.
