STUDENT SUPPORT WORKER

As part of a local community initiative the school has the services of a Student Support Worker who focuses primarily on students who are potential early school leavers. Working in conjunction with the School Completion Programme, the worker is involved in programme development and provides support to students experiencing difficulties which might lead to early school leaving.

CARE COMMITTEE

A Care Committee, comprising Principal, Deputy Principal, Guidance councellors (2) Student Support Workers(2) and Home School Liason Officer meet on a monthly basis to monitor support for those students requiring such.

HOME SCHOOL COMMUNITY LIAISON TEACHER

Communication between school and home is an essential to maximising student performance. The college hasa full-time HSCL person who supports parents and students on a variety of issues.

COUNSELLING

Two Guidance Counsellors, members of staff, are available to any students experiencing personal difficulties or emotional stress.

STUDENT MENTORING SCHEME

New students to the school are looked after by trained senior students who act as mentors and who help new students to settle in to school, meet new friends and participate in many extra-curricular activities.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Students with an identified talent may avail of annual scholarships in the areas of languages, sport, drama, dance and further education.

SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

The school has access to the services of a psychologist from the Department of Education. In the certificate examinations, special arrangements may be made for students with a physical disability or a specific learning difficulty.

LEARNING SUPPORT

The school has a learning support system. Students with a learning disability can benefit and progress in the areas of basic literacy and numeracy through the extra tuition provided in an individual or small group setting.

BOOK RENTAL

The school operates a book rental scheme making expensive books available to students at a very reasonable rate. The school has also introduced a new initiative whereby duplicate sets of books are provided in some subjects areas, thus reducing the heavy burden of school bag weight. One set of books is kept in the classroom while students keep a copy of the corresponding book at home for study purposes.

HOMEWORK CLUB

The school offers a homework facility four evenings a week supervised by school staff members.
